Services Offered at Minneapolis Campus (revised 12/19/05) 

Parking: Ramp parking is available for $5.00 in the ramp across from MCTC on Hennepin Avenue.  The automated ramp gates will accept $1 $5 or $10 dollar bills, or quarters, and will dispense up to $5 change.  Prepaid parking access cards can be purchased from the bookstore or the MCTC website: www.mctcbookstore.com. Parking costs with this card are reduced to $2.50 per entry*.   

*Note: Staff and faculty may also purchase parking cards through payroll deduction.  The charge for parking is also $2.50 per day or $25.00 per pay period.  With payroll deduction, you are charged for 5 days a week, but have access 7 days a week.  And with payroll deduction, your card is accepted at the parking lot on the St. Paul campus for no extra charge. 

A parking permit is required during the day; therefore, hangtags are distributed the first week of classes to the students who will need to park during day time hours (7:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.)  

Faculty for Metropolitan State day classes need to pick up the hangtags for their class at the Public Safety Desk.  The packets will be identified by class and instructor.   

The bottom portion of the hangtag should be completed and returned to the MCTC Public Safety office on the skyway level of the parking ramp.  The top portion should remain in the vehicle at all times to prevent towing. 

For students who do not have a day class but need to be on campus before 4:30pm, they can get a hangtag from the attendant at the MCTC Parking Ramp as they enter by showing their Metropolitan State University ID.  Use the far left lane to enter the ramp.  They can also request one at the Public Safety Desk. 

Skyway Access:  The parking ramp is connected to the campus by skyway (3rd floor parking ramp).  This skyway entrance will bring you directly to the Public Safety/Information desk.  

Classroom Access:   Keys are provided to faculty for each classroom in which they teach.  On the first night of classes, stop by the Public Safety office located on the skyway level of the parking ramp. You will complete a key request form.  Photo Identification is required to sign-out a key.  (The keys may not be available until the following week.) 

Schedules:  A class schedule and list of room assignments will be posted near the Information Desk. In addition, during the first week of class in the evening, a Metropolitan State University staff volunteer will be at the Information desk located next to the Public Safety to assist faculty and students with locating classrooms.  

Multimedia Services: Each classroom is equipped with an overhead projector. Some classrooms are equipped with permanent multimedia equipment. Instructional Resources Equipment Requests:  Instructors may request other equipment, such as a computer, LCD projector, TV/VCR unit, etc., by completing an electronic equipment request form.  The MCTC Media Request Form may be accessed by: login to the NetDirect Portal, click on Visit IT, and click on Forms and Policies, then click on MCTC’s Media Request Form or go directly to http://www.minneapolis.edu/its/mediaServices/mediaRequest.cfm  Minimum notice for instructional resource equipment requests is two full working days (Monday-Friday).   

Any problems or issues with audiovisual equipment should be directed to the MCTC ITS help Desk at 612-659-6600.  The MCTC ITS Department is open Monday – Thursday from 7:30am to 5:30pm and Friday 7:30am to 5:00pm.  After-hours and Saturday assistance can be obtained by contacting the Metropolitan State IT Desk at 651-793-1240 for onsite assistance.  

Supplies:  Each classroom is stocked with chalk, whiteboard markers and erasers.  However, if at any time you need additional supplies, you can request them from the Metro A/V office by emailing Cindy Conners or the IT Help Desk. 
 

Room Temperature:  Although MCTC tries very hard to maintain a comfortable room temperature in each classroom, there may be an occasional problem with the HVAC system.  If at any time you experience a temperature control problem, please call the MCTC facilities office at 612-659-6800.   

Janitorial:  If you find the cleanliness of the classrooms unacceptable, please contact MCTC facilities office at 612-659-6800.    

ATM Machines:  An ATM machine is located on the street level of the cafeteria. 

Cafeteria:  The MCTC cafeteria is located on the lower level of the Technology building and is open until 7:00 p.m. weekdays.  The cafeteria provides a variety of dining options including a grill, sandwich bar, pizza, and hot entrees. 

Bookstore:  Metropolitan State faculty and students are free to use the MCTC bookstore located on the 1st floor of the Technology building.  The bookstore is open Monday – Thursday from 8:00am – 6:00pm and from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm on Friday. Although the bookstore will not carry Metropolitan State course textbooks, the staff will gladly assist you with any special orders you have. 

Pay Phones:  Pay phones and courtesy phones are located in convenient locations on each floor.  There are also telephones located in all classrooms which are intended for emergency purposes only.  Please note that these classrooms do not allow outside calls. 

Copy Center:  The MCTC copy center is located on the second level (2nd floor) of the Technology building and offers a variety of services available to all Metropolitan State faculty and students.   The copy center is open Monday to Thursday from 7:30am – 8:00pm.; 7:30am – 4:00 pm on Friday; and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.   Available services are as follows: 
• Copies – Both full service copying and self-serve copying is available at a cost of 10¢ per page.  A coin-operated copier is also located in the library.
• Faxing – Fax machines are available at $1 per page.
• Postal Service – Both business and personal mail can be dropped off for US Mail pick-up.
• Courier – The MnSCU courier makes daily pick-up for interoffice delivery.
 

Please note the following: 
• MCTC will provide a charge back service for all Metro business related copying, faxing and postage.  To obtain a charge back code, please contact your department chair. 
• All charge backs require a Metro ID.  If you do not have a Metro ID, contact the Metropolitan State University Student Activities Office at (651) 793-1616 for information on how to get one.
• The MCTC copy center will refuse any copy job without copyright permission. However, the copy center staff will help you get permission if needed.
 

Academic Computer Center:  The Academic Computer Centers are available for use by all faculty and students on a first come, first served basis.  However, access to the computer centers requires a Metro ID.  If you do not have a Metro ID, contact the Metropolitan State University Student Activities Office at (651) 793-1616 for information on how to get one. 

The Academic Computer Centers are open Monday through Thursday until 9:40 p.m., Friday until 3:40 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. Both computer centers offer new, state of the art, internet accessible computers.

Safety / Security:  If you have any safety or security concerns with the Minneapolis campus, please call the campus public safety office by dialing extension 6900 from any campus phone. If interested, a complete Emergency Procedures Manual is available in the public safety office, located in the skyway, additional safety materials are also available upon request.
