Services Offered at the Midway Center (Revised 12/19/05) 

The School of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice is housed in Metropolitan State University’s Midway Center.  For students and faculty not in that school, services at the Midway Center are limited to those listed below. 

Phone Numbers: The Midway Center information desk can be reached by calling 651-999-5880, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.  The Midway security officer can be reached by cell phone  651-775-6122 or paged at 952-601-4865, Monday through Friday between the hours of 4:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., and on Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. 

General Information: The Midway Center information desk is located in suite 100A and staffed Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. 

Smoking Policy:  Smoking at the Midway Center is allowed only by the loading dock which is located between the east and west side of the building.  Smoking is not permitted in front of the east entrance at the Midway Center. 

Classroom Scheduling: During the first week of classes, Scheduling Office staff will be available Monday through Thursday until 7 p.m. to assist you with any immediate scheduling needs; call 651-793-1700 for assistance.  

Meeting Rooms: There are tables and chairs in the Midway Writing and Math Center, which can be used to meet with students.  Classrooms are also available for meetings; to reserve a classroom for a meeting, email Connie.Keithahn@metrostate.edu    

Room Temperature: If you experience a temperature control problem Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., call 651-999-5880.  After office hours or on weekends, an answering service will take your call at 651-793-1700 and contact the appropriate staff member. 

Furniture:  The classroom furniture is supplied by the university.  For additional chairs or for replacement of broken items, call 651.793.1700.  After office hours or on weekends, an answering service will take the call and forward to the appropriate staff person.  Do not remove chairs from common areas such as the Cafeteria/vending room as these chairs are the property of Wellington Management. 

Copy Services:  The Midway Center is not equipped or staffed for large copying jobs.  However, there is a public copier located in the reception area.  Faculty and staff may access this machine by using their Metropolitan State I.D. card.  The cost of the copying is charged back to the appropriate college/department.  Students may access this copier by coin operation.  Faculty may have their support staff copy material and send it to the Pick Up table located in the reception area. 

Computer Center:  The computer lab is located on the first floor.  It is open to students and staff Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.  This lab is not open on Sundays.  Computer lab hours are subject to change due to holidays and semester breaks.  A mobile wireless computer cart which contains 20 laptop computers is also available on a first-come, first-served basis.  For further information or to reserve the mobile lab, contact the IT desk at 651-793-1240 it.desk@metrostate.edu

Instructional Resources Equipment Requests:   All classrooms are equipped with a whiteboard, markers, erasers, and a permanently mounted projection screen.  Instructors may request other equipment, such as a computer, LCD projector, TV/VCR unit, etc., by completing an electronic equipment request form.  The Media Request Form may be accessed by: login to the NetDirect Portal, click on Visit IT, and click on  Forms and Policies.  Minimum notice for instructional resource equipment requests is two full working days (Monday-Friday).  Equipment problems should be reported to 651-793-1240 or it.desk@metrostate.edu. 

  

Media Requests: Video booking requests must now be made through Library and Information Services by calling 651-793-1616.  Media requests should be made well in advance to allow for inter campus delivery to the appropriate library for pickup. 

Security:  The Midway Center security officer can be reached on the cell phone : 651-775-6122.  Security staff is responsible for locking and unlocking doors, general safety, escort service, key related issues, severe weather information, lighting issues, lost and found, power outages, fire alarm response and other general security/safety items 

Emergency and Mobility-impaired Occupants: All building occupants should be directed to the stairwells in the event of a fire emergency.  If you have a mobility-impaired person in your class, designate two people to assist that person in the event of an emergency.  One moves the mobility-impaired person to a stairwell and remains with him/her; the other informs the security officer who will in turn ask the fire department to evacuate that person.  During power outages, one person should go with the person to an area with emergency lighting and the other person should contact the security officer.   

Weather Emergencies:  Cancellations due to weather or other occurrences are announced on WCCO Radio AM 830 and WCCO Television, and are posted on the Metropolitan State home page at www.metrostate.edu
