Services Offered at the Continuing Education & Conference Center at the University of Minnesota (formerly the Earl Brown Continuing Education Center)
Saint Paul Campus Metropolitan State University is now offering classes at the Continuing Education & Conference Center on the University of Minnesota Saint Paul campus. Address: Continuing Education & Conference Center College of Continuing Education University of Minnesota 1890 Buford Avenue Saint Paul, MN 55108 612.624.3275 Parking: Park in the S104 lot which is attached to the Continuing Education & Conference Center. The cost of parking in this surface lot for Metropolitan State students and instructors is $3.25. Enter the Center right off this parking lot at the lower level door. Most of the classrooms are on that level as well as the security guard who can direct you to your classroom. There are also monitors at the entrance that will show classroom assignments by course. For a map, go to Metropolitan State University’s website: www.metrostate.edu and click on Visit a Campus in the lower left hand corner. Note: Metro State parking will be $5.00 during the State Fair and the usual $3.25 in Lot S104 when the Fair is over. Please park in the Gortner Ramp at Buford and Gortner Streets and identify yourself as a Metro State student. You will pay $5.00. Note that the State Fair rate is $7.00. After the Fair, you can return to the S104 Lot. Classroom and Parking Lot Directions: Going west on Highway 36: Follow Highway 36 to the Cleveland Avenue exit. Follow Cleveland Avenue south past Larpenteur Avenue. Take a left onto Buford Avenue. Cross Gortner Ave. The Continuing Education & Conference Center will on your right. Park in S104. Going north on I-35W: Follow I-35W north to the Cleveland Avenue exit. Follow Cleveland Avenue south past Larpenteur Avenue. Take a left onto Buford Avenue. Cross Gortner Ave. The Continuing Education & Conference Center will on your right. Park in S104. Going south on I-35W: Follow I-35W south to the Cleveland Avenue exit. Follow Cleveland Avenue south past Larpenteur Avenue. Take a left onto Buford Avenue. Cross Gortner Ave. The Continuing Education & Conference Center will on your right. Park in S104. From I-94: Take Snelling Avenue north to Como Avenue. Go left (west) on Como Avenue to Cleveland Avenue. Take a right onto Cleveland Avenue and follow it to Buford Avenue. Take a right onto Buford. Cross Gortner Ave. The Continuing Education & Conference Center will on your right. Park in S104. Security & Escort Services: A Security Guard, hired by Metropolitan State, will be at the site during all hours of classes. He is available to escort students and faculty to the parking lot. Classroom Scheduling: During the first week of classes, Metropolitan State’s Scheduling Office staff will be available Monday through Thursday until 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. to assist you with any immediate scheduling needs; call 651-793-1700 for assistance. Room Temperature: If you experience a temperature control problem, let the Security Guard know and he will contact the appropriate staff person at the Center. Copy Services: As a courtesy the Center will provide a small number of copies for instructors teaching at this site. Facilities will cover the cost of 25 copies per class per semester. Anything over that amount will be billed to your department. The Center is not staffed to do large numbers of copies. If you have larger copy jobs, contact your department to make arrangements. Contact the Security Guard on site if you need copies made. Instructional Resources Equipment: All Continuing Education & Conference Center classrooms are equipped with a whiteboard, markers, erasers, and an overhead projector. For additional equipment needs, contact Nancy Bagshaw-Reasoner, Director of Facilities Use at Metropolitan State University. Emergency and Mobility-impaired Occupants: All building occupants should be directed to the stairwells in the event of a fire emergency. If you have a mobility-impaired person in your class, designate two people to assist that person in the event of an emergency. One moves the mobility-impaired person to a stairwell and remains with him/her; the other informs the security officer who will in turn ask the fire department to evacuate that person. During power outages, one person should go with the person to an area with emergency lighting and the other person should contact the security officer. Weather Emergencies: Cancellations due to weather or other occurrences are announced on WCCO Radio AM 830 and WCCO Television, and are posted on the Web site at www.metrostate.edu. Grades: Grades are due within 72 hours of the end of the semester. For additional information, call the Grading Office at 651-793-1223. Please leave classrooms as you found them. Remember this is a conference center and it is in use first thing the next morning.
